Administration wants to curb MTBE

Article Abstract:

The US Congress has been asked to enact laws that will significantly contribute to the reduction or outright elimination of the fuel additive methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) from contaminating the nation's drinking water. The Environmental Protection has noted a threefold increase in the use of MTBE in gasoline since Congress issued a 1990 directive calling for the increased use of reformulated gasoline with a 2% oxygen content in areas with serious smog problems.
