Closing the loop, ton by ton

Article Abstract:

Recycling may be environentally wise but may still be quite economically unviable as demonstrated by the higher prices of recycled contents commodities than virgin products. Nevertheless, some sectors of the industry are bent on their participation with the buy recycled program such as McDonald's Corp's 140 million tons recycled content purchasing program in 1991 which was seen as successful because it did not jeopardize quality standards and competitive pricing. Other efforts to help the buy recycled program can also be made both by individual consumers and companies.

Recycling vs. environmental politics

Article Abstract:

Analysis conducted by Frost & Sullivan, a marketing and research firm, on the economic aspects of environmentally responsible waste management systems in the US shows that waste recovery, recycling, and composting are economically sound issues. Surveys indicate that the citizens are concerned about pollution and want a healthy environment. The Congress needs to show more concern, and local governments should handle solid waste issues.
