Composting boosts tourism and coffee production

Article Abstract:

Organics recycling program, that solves the problems of pollution and garbage dumping and also need for organic manure to grow certified coffee, is highlighted. The city of Refuge believes composting is an important element in the transition and plans to use the finished compost in the coffee fields and vegetable gardens to reduce the need for imported manure and the use of pesticides.

Stream bank stabilization utilizing compost

Article Abstract:

Compost is very promising in environmental and storm water management applications and also in bank stabilization projects. An area with heavy pedestrian and pet traffic, which contributed to the erosion problem, was restored and ecologically effective stream bank stabilization techniques are demonstrated.

Two primary challenges facing the compost industry are streamlining permit processes for building new facilities, and developing and enhancing markets for compost products. Suggestions include dedicating a specialist for handling permits, and testing new applications.
