Degradation of explosive propellants by in-vessel composting

Article Abstract:

Composting may prove to be the most environmentally safe disposal alternative for explosive and flammable propellants. Microbes have been found to be an effective biodegradable agent and composting treatment by microbes is a viable procedure for propellant disposal. The in-vessel composting process is advantageous for the hazardous material as it includes complete containment, speed and uniformity of the end product. The in-vessel composting of nitrocellulose from two commonly used propellants is described.

Broadening compost use in Southern Europe

Article Abstract:

The large agricultural industry in Andalusia, Spain is faced with the challenges of low organic matter and high erosion and is finding solutions offered by compost. The reforestation studies demonstrated that the application of compost stimulated plant growth and improved tree survival rates showed an increase of height and volume in tree cultivation that could prove valuable in lumber production.
