International fish wars: the strategic roles for fleet licensing and effort subsidies

Article Abstract:

Strategic fleet licensing and strategic effort subsidies in noncooperative international fishing resulted in depleted rents, decreased welfare and depleted international fish stocks. International noncooperation through fleet licensing war between at least two nations may result in zero economic rents similar to international open access to the fish supply. On the other hand, international noncooperation via effort subsidy war between two countries decreases economic rents but does not lead to zero economic rents.

An economic analysis of the fisheries bycatch problem

Article Abstract:

Bycatch refers to the incidental take of a species that has value to some other group. A comparative study was conducted on open access and individual transferable quota equilibria to the equilibrium in the which the joint value of the fisheries is maximized. The open access induced problems can only be rectified by an individual transferable quota system if both the target species and the bycatch species have tradable quotas and if the bycatch species does not have existence value.

The compleat fish wars: biological and dynamic interactions

Article Abstract:

The dynamic and biological relationships in the context of a differential game in discreet time are studied. Based on a fishery involving two participants, each catching and consuming two species of fish, a model that studies non-dominant strategies in situations where symbiotic, negative, and predator-prey interactions are present is formulated. A comparative study between the solution provided by the new model and other previous solutions is presented.
