Landfill gas powers food processing firm

Article Abstract:

A cooperative project that involves a food and beverage company in Memphis, Tennessee, a major waste management firm, the regional energy utility, and a Louisiana technology business specializing in emissions reduction projects shows what it takes to create a system to collect and utilize gas generated from decomposing MSW at the landfill. The project demonstrates how important community benefits can be achieved through cooperation and investment among companies, utility providers, and government organizations.

Development of biorefineries

Article Abstract:

Biorefineries use plant biomass as the feedstock to produce a diverse set of products such as animal feed fuels, chemicals, polymers, lubricants, adhesives, fertilizers and power. Researchers are focusing on utilizing every component of the biomass feedstock to improve yields, increase the value of coproducts and utilize every fraction of the raw materials. Information on a few biorefineries in America, which produce ethanol from cellulosic feedstock, is provided.

Fleets fuel up on biodiesel blends

Biodiesel blends are used by corporate, government and farm fleets across East Tennessee in their vehicles and equipments. The cooperative efforts of the East Tennessee Clean Fuels Coalition (ETCFC), fuel suppliers and fleets have boosted the use of biodiesel in the region.
