Municipalities roll out source separated household organics collection

Article Abstract:

The survey conducted in the year 2006 found that 30 municipalities and counties had implemented source separated household organics collections programs and these municipal agencies made significant investments in collection infrastructure and outreach and education to establish these programs. The 23rd Annual BioCycle West Coast Conference to be held in April 16-18, 2007 in San Diego would feature several sessions that would advise on how to build participation in source separated organics collection programs aimed at residents and commercial and institutional generators.

Anaerobic digester services industrial generators

Article Abstract:

Waste Management's new Anaerobic Pretreatment Center (APC) receives liquid waste streams with high COD and fats, oils and grease. While the facility is currently designed for liquid organic residuals, it could be upgraded to process solid organic wastes such as feedstocks from grocery stores and restaurants.

Solar drying technology yields class a biosolids

Article Abstract:

Small wastewater treatment plant in northern California installs solar drying beds to manage 340 dry tons/year of biosolids. To operate the solar drying facility it requires about 30 kW-hours/dry ton versus an estimated 600 kW/dry ton to operate a conventional heat dryer.
