Going with the flow

Article Abstract:

A ruling by a US federal court that waste shipments between states are protected by the US Constitution has stalled initiatives aimed at enacting laws that would promote 'flow control.' Such legislations are being considered in order to encourage within-state recycling initiatives. However, the institution of 'flow control' is also seen as an unfair development for a number of companies that have made significant investments in landfills.

The promise of mixed paper

Article Abstract:

Mixed paper has been around for a long time but it is only at the end of the 1990s decade that it is coming into its own as a commodity. The composition of mixed paper is so diverse that the end result is usually a product of inconsistent quality. This, along with the loose definition of the term 'mixed paper,' are considered the primary negative elements associated with the product. However, efforts to establish a precise, specific definition for mixed paper and collection systems having the end product in mind have considerably brightened the future prospects of mixed paper as a sustainable commodity.
