Recycling after the storm

Article Abstract:

Employees of the Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management in Florida went back to work right after Hurricane Andrew left 250,000 people homeless. Since up to 75,000 homes were destroyed, the amount of construction and demolition debris to be collected, recycled or burned was tremendous. It was estimated that 18 million tons of waste was produced by the hurricane. The county has a mulching program which will aid in the recovery of as much debris as possible from the storm.
