Selection criteria for wastewater pumps

Article Abstract:

Selection criteria for wastewater pumps are provided to determine the right pumps to be used for specific applications. A "standard" submersible pump in the dry well cannot operate because it needs to be submerged to cool the motor. However, it eliminates the line shafts usually found with conventional dry well pumps and reduces costs associated with shaft and equipment vibration. A vertical-type solids handling pumping station is more expensive compared to the conventional dry well or submersible pump. It has a minimum capacity of about 1,500-gpm with total dynamic head of between 15 and 30 feet per stage.

Pumps give stormwater the shaft

Article Abstract:

UK-based utility Southern Water awarded UK-based Bedford Pump Co a contract to design a pumping installation system that was part of a bigger, stormwater diversion project. Bedford Pump was also required to manufacture the system's four main storm return pumps, commission two grit pumps and install and test the complete system as part of the agreement. The company created a novel system which has the ability to raise and lower the pumps to facilitate ease of service or maintenance.

Plant solves sludge pumping problems using disc pumps

Article Abstract:

Discflo's disc pumps were used by the Ashbridges Bay Main Treatment Plant to solve its pump maintenance problems. The Toronto, Canada-based sewage treatment facility, which serves an area of around 40.5 hectares, was having costly periodic overhauls with its lobe pumps and cavity type pumps. Discflo's disc pumps, also known as Discpac, creates a molecular buffer between the sludge and the discs that results in a smooth flow that is free of pulsation.
