Characterizing supermarket organics

Article Abstract:

A study of the quantity and content of nonrecycled total wastes and supermarket organic wastes in Michigan, aims at enhancing the value of the end product. Compostable organics constitute 81% of supermarket waste, having a high bulk density and moisture content, a low C:N ratio and a low pH. Addition of leaves to the waste enhances their compostability, yielding stable and moist compost end product.

Yard trimmings composting in the Air Force

Article Abstract:

A survey of composting programs, operational in the US Air Force, highlights the enhanced base-level yard trimmings compost activity in these regions. Local municipalities and on-site facilities help in recycling a wide range of organics by employing high tech systems for restricting waste streams. Mulch mowers are also being increasingly used for managing yard trimmings.
