West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service - building for the future

Article Abstract:

A new headquarters for the West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service is being constructed in Birmingham city center. The new site will have a building that will give modern accommodation for about 400 personnel and another will be used as a facility for community safety, stores and workshops. The construction of a new facility for the Technical Rescue Unit teams is also discussed.

The role of G reater M anchester Fire and R escue Service in planning for securing the Labour Party Conference held in the city on 24-28 September 2006 is discussed. The Service was involved in contingency planning, communications, venue area security, and media handling.
