The mecca of Alfred Marshall

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine Alfred Marshall's theory of economic research linking the subject with biological foundations. The study assumes that although Marshall considered the value of such biological metaphor for economics, the influence of Herbert Spencer diminished the possibility of further development of his analysis. It is shown that attempts to integrate Marshallian economics in current studies have to consider the historical background of its foundations.

A journey to the sources of the Jaxartes

Article Abstract:

The original destination of the Oxus and Jaxartes rivers of Central Asia have been the subject of significant debate, as to whether they ended up in the Caspian or Aral Seas. Hugh Leach was one of four members of the Royal Society for Asian Affairs who travelled to Kazakhstan in July 1998 to investigate the main sources of the Jaxartes river in the Tianshan and Ferghana-Alai.
