HACU and Laureate partner to fund study abroad

Article Abstract:

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and Laureate International Universities have joined together to award more than $8 million in tuition scholarships to encourage Hispanics to study abroad throughout Europe and Latin America. The program addresses significant barriers preventing students, particularly Hispanics, from studying abroad and provides students from HACU's more than 400 member schools in the states and Puerto Rico with the opportunity to study abroad at one of Laureate's 15 universities in various countries.

Snatching victory from defeat: Setbacks in affirmative action landscape accelerate other outreach efforts

Article Abstract:

The elimination of minority-based student admissions and financial aid policies as a result of two 2003 Supreme Court rulings on university policies, combined with rising fees and inadequate preparation by a high school curriculum lead to Hispanic students discontinuing studies after school. However, outreach programs that introduce Hispanic families to higher education and recruitment to increase the number of Hispanic college applicants address the problems faced by Hispanic students.
