Republican hopes in '08 may ride on meeting immigration challenge

Article Abstract:

The significant anti-Republican mood of the Hispanic voters in the 2006 November elections was chiefly due to the failure of the US President George W. Bush to implement immigration reforms. The Republicans are however making efforts to gain political support of the growing strength of voting Hispanics in the 2008 elections by pushing to resolve issues of immigration reform before those elections.

Article Abstract:

Hispanic Political Action Committees (PACS) contributed over $1.8 million to candidates in the 2003-04 U.S. election cycle, according to data from the Federal Election Commission (FEC). Adam Segal, director of the Hispanic Voter Project at Johns Hopkins University states that the Hispanic-focused PACs with the most clout today are those affiliated with major political parties.

The four key factors that will define the role of Hispanics in the 2004 Presidential Elections are highlighted. They are a changing demographic imperative and growing political capital, the recent foundational developments in political infrastructure, the renewed Hispanic political agenda, and externalities such as political parties and public opinion.
