The Eastern Saluki: past and present

Article Abstract:

The Saluki, possibly the oldest breed of coursing hound in the world, is held in very high esteem in the region from Central Asia to North Africa. These dogs are very closely guarded because they are so highly prized, and Western visitors may never see one. The two main types of Saluki are the feathered and the smooth. The best Salukis are generally found in small settlements, where working hounds have been bred true to type over many years and the focus has been on breeding best to best.
