AFLAC Inc. ranked the highest as the company which provides the best career opportunities for Hispanic Americans. The insurance company, which is based in Columbus, GA, has the highest diversity among all Fortune 1000 companies. It is also the only company which has a Hispanic in its board of directors.

George L. Pla began his urban and regional planning consulting firm 14 years ago with just five employees. In 1994 Cordoba became national with a major federal project that went bust because of congressional cutbacks. In that year Cordoba also received its first overseas contract in Beijing, China.

NAFTA makes noise

The NAFTA treaty with Mexico and Canada has raised various controversial issues, especially among Hispanic support groups. Hispanics have commented on NAFTA's failure to include labor and environmental issues in the core agreement.
