The emirates of Abu Dhabi and Dubai: Contrasting roles in the international system

Article Abstract:

The striking contrast between the two United Arab Emirates (UAE), the emirates of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, their histories and leadership, their geographical variances and disparity in oil reserves which have led to different roles within the UAE federation and the international system are outlined. The distinct development strategies employed by them and the relative advantages and disadvantages of these strategies are studied.

Japan: Recovered and under new direction with Prime Minister Abe

Article Abstract:

Japanese economy has bounced back after many years of economic stagnation and it is likely to be back in terms of foreign policy too with reference to the diplomatic moves by New Prime Minister Abe. A perspective of Japan, as it stands at present, and the role played by Japan in the international field in Asia and in the wider world is presented.

The SocietyEs 2004 tour of Central Asia

Article Abstract:

The Royal Society for Asian Affairs traveled to countries such as Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan in Central Asia in 2004. The Society examined the development of each country since 1991 and the impact of 'September 11th' on tourism.
