Article Abstract:

A manuscript of the travels of a munshi from Lahore to Ladakh from 1820-1821 was examined. The transcript's author described the travel party's day-to-day activities, the customs of the people they met and other events encountered. The transcript also illustrates the status of the region in the early 19th century and the evolution of European and global politics. Moreover, the significance of Kashmiri traders in the economics of the Central Asian caravan trade was also discussed.
