Univision Communications Inc, the country's biggest Spanish language tv network, feels threatened of the impending sale of its rival network, Telemundo Group Inc to Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc and Liberty Media Corp. The sale will give Telemundo the leverage to compete with Univision.

Turning the tables in Spanish TV

Article Abstract:

Spanish-language television network Telemundo Groups has rebounded from poor showings in the Nielsen ratings and its broadcast earnings are growing. Telemundo, however, may still be sold on Wall Street where it could be worth more if sold for the value of its seven TV stations.

A clear (TV) picture: Univision and Telemundo generate $511 million in ad revenue, a 15 percent jump over the previous year

Spanish-language TV network Univision Communications Inc., valued at over $1.3 billion, increased its advertising revenues from $316.5 million to $354.2 million between 1995 and 1996. Telemundo Group Inc. reported a 21% increase in its advertising revenues during that time.
