An ecological, risk-factor examination of adolescents' sexual activity in three ethnic groups

Article Abstract:

The determinants of sexual activity among minority adolescents were investigated from an ecological, risk-factor perspective. Data from a sample of 15,362 African American, Latino and European American adolescents were analyzed to test whether increased exposure to risk factors would result in a similar increase in sexual activity among the three ethnic groups. Empirical results showed that the risk factors of sexual activity among the ethnic groups do not differ significantly. The level of negative peer group characteristics was also found to be related to sexual activity.

Consequences of young mothers' marital histories for children's cognitive development

Article Abstract:

The marital histories of young mothers are examined to determine if family background plays an important role in the social and psychological development of their children. Statistical figures from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth are examined. Results show that marital histories affect the children through the absence or presence of human, social and economic resources.
