Can too much iron kill you?

Article Abstract:

An abnormally high concentration of iron in the blood may be a symptom of hereditary hemachromatosis. The condition causes the intestines to take in more iron which accumulate in the organs and ruptures surrounding tissues. It causes arthritis, diabetes, impotence, cirrhosis and heart disease.

Lax regulation of medical laboratories contributes to incorrect or missed diagnoses that have resulted in patient deaths. Implementation of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 has not begun, which would regulate labs with questionable practices.
