Effectiveness of school-based mental health services for children: a 10-year research review

Article Abstract:

Literature on school-based mental health services for children from 1985 to 1995 were reviewed using a computerized data-base search. The three most effective intervention methods discovered were social skills training, teacher consultation and cognitive-behavioral therapy. Through the review of literature, it was recommended that future studies on school-based mental health services should evaluate the effect of these services when associated with home-based interventions and to expand the range of outcomes to include variables related to family perspectives and service placements.
