Article Abstract:

Multimedia conferencing is increasing in popularity, mainly because of its potential to reduce the time and money involved in traditional meetings. A recent study conducted by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply reports that multimedia conferencing, which comprises audio communication, videoconferencing and data exchange, saves companies an average of 76% when all expenses are factored in. In addition, conferencing automation helps companies improve business processes by accelerating decision-making. There are a number of multimedia conferencing systems that are available in the market, ranging from the traditional room systems to compact appliances and PC-based computers. It is also now possible for desktop personal computers to handle complex tasks, including processes that compress and decompress streams of video and audio effectively.
