The Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949: from the 1949 diplomatic conference to the dawn of the new millennium

Article Abstract:

Why the 1949 Geneva Conventions were a major breakthrough in a humanitarian sense is analyzed. Their significance during the rest of the century is also analyzed, when the threat of nuclear destruction had receded and they were applied to different situations from what the framers had in mind.

Judo Economics: Capacity Limitation and Coupon Limitation

The strategy of a fringe competitor against a dominant market participant is examined. Use of capacity limitation and discount pricing makes retaliation expensive. Circumstances are outlined under which it is preferable to permit entry.
