A critical examination of literature from the Nineties regarding the impact of family structures and processes on the relationship between child development and urban neighbourhoods is presented. Reference is made to the fact that whilst the family has been the central focus in this area of research, it has remained on the margins regarding methodological and theoretical specificity.
