Article Abstract:

As process automation continues, information resource management becomes ever more critical to the success or failure of a manufacturing enterprise. Autofact 6 Conference and Exposition focused on the automated factory that uses computer technologies to integrate the entire business and manufacturing cycle. Cross-functional training will become more important. Computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) has the capacity to manufacture small volumes inexpensively and make new product changeovers rapidly. The key aspect of a flexible manufacturing system (FMS) is its ability to adapt to change. CAD-CAM and the CAE industry are aided by a generation of more powerful and cost-effective systems. Several photographs of systems and equipment are included.
