Article Abstract:

Love and marriage have made a comeback in the 1990s. Surveys show that most women will not marry without love, 90% of people get married and that divorce rates are on the decline. These trends are attributed to improved communications between couples and the increased interest in commitment.

A woman describes how Marriage Encounters saved her deteriorating marriage. Her husband had become withdrawn and she had gained weight and neglected household chores. They used letters to communicate their feelings to one another and were able to renew their relationship.

Churches are requiring couples who want to marry to take extensive tests and sessions in confliction resolution, finance and communication before they get married. This is to prevent future divorces and help couples seriously evaluate their relationship beforehand.
