Fathers are becoming more involved in their children's lives, but mothers still bear most of the family responsibilities because they assume the leadership role. Fathers play an important role in a child's development and researchers believe this role will continue to evolve.

New parents can prepare themselves for life with a baby by taking advantage of leave periods and postpartum care services to give them time to focus on the infant's needs. This 'nesting in' period helps mothers and fathers adapt to the demands of parenthood.

Too young to spoil

A Johns Hopkins University research project reveals that babies whose mothers respond to their cries quickly cry less than those whose mothers ignore their cries. Despite contrary advice from some physicians, infants are not spoiled by being held too often.
