Parental and occupational stress as predictors of depressive symptoms among dual-income couples: a multilevel modeling approach

Article Abstract:

Researchers considering the impact of parental and occupational stress on depressive symptoms have used a matched pair design with appropriate covariates, along with a multilevel modeling approach. It was established that there are links between social role stress and depressive symptoms in dual-income couples. This applies to both men and women. It was not found that occupational stress is more closely related to depressive symptoms in men, or that parental stress is more closely linked to depressive symptoms in women.

Testing the theoretical models underlying the ways of coping questionnaire with couples

Article Abstract:

The Ways of Coping Questionnaire (WCQ) is evaluated to determine its structural validity in the light of studies that challenge the theoretical integrity of the multidimensional coping model. First-order and second-order confirmatory factor analyses with a sample size of 506 couples are used. Results show that the multidimensional four-factor model provides a more accurate estimate of the data than the eight-factor model.

Coping with dual-income lifestyle

Article Abstract:

A study of the attitudes of 314 spouses in dual-income marriages revealed that these couples employed cognitive restructuring and planning in conducting their highly stressed lives. Coping strategies including talking, withdrawing and curbing job responsibilities aided in mitigating the negative impacts of role overload and role conflict, thereby paving the way for harmonious dual-income marriages.
