Reimagining family therapy: reflections on Minuchin's invisible family

Article Abstract:

Author Salvador Minuchin has expressed his concern about the fact that narrative therapists have misplaced the family and rendered it invisible. This reflects in his readings of four clinical vignettes by four different therapists and in his allegations that two professionals' methods of family therapy do not require working with the family. His critique, which invites possibilities for expanding and enriching family therapy theories and practices, is rebutted.

A conservative response to Simon's revision of structural family therapy

Article Abstract:

Simon has not revised structural family therapy (SFT) but has merely described it from a different theoretical orientation. Competence and uniqueness have always existed in conjunction with structure as core assumptions of SFT. Thus, Simon's second-order cybernetic approach may view structural theory and practice from a different perspective, but it does not necessarily impact the way a structural family therapist views theory and practice.

Gender equality and the psychology of men: comment on "The politics of gender in family therapy."

Article Abstract:

The unexamined aspects of masculinity may account for the variance in failures to attain gender equality in therapy and in broader social context. These aspects are the greater power and privilege given to men in a patriarchal society and the vulnerabilities that men face as a result of their gender role socialization under masculinist ideology. The newer perspectives on the psychology of men are presented.
