Sex of parent and children's well-being in single-parent households

Article Abstract:

The well-being of youths raised in single-mother and single-father families were compared by analyzing the 1990 wave of the National Education Longitudinal Study. Adults raised by single parents were also studied using data from the General Social Surveys, 1972-1994. Findings revealed contrasts between single mothers and single fathers but lend little credence to the view that the sex of the single parent is a determinant of the well-being and characteristics of the child.
