The Lesbian Family Life Cycle

Article Abstract:

Suzanne Slater's book "The Lesbian Family Life Cycle," focuses on the social limitations and needs of lesbian couples using Slater's five-stage model of the lesbian family life cycle. The lesbians are generally prohibited from leading a normal social life. Slater discusses the five stages in the life cycle of lesbian couples including the formation of the couple, the issues of living together, and a stage of generativity when the couples wish to create a legacy. The book is particularly helpful for clinical work with lesbian couples.

Social networks, structural interdependence, and conjugal adjustment in heterosexual, gay, and lesbian couples

Article Abstract:

The social networks and conjugal adjustment of heterosexual, gay, and lesbian couples are examined to determine if the social networks had differing structural features and if the features of the social network predicted conjugal adjustment. No differences were found in the network structures of gay and lesbian couples. Wives of heterosexual couples tended to have more kin than husbands in the joint network.

The economic consequences of child sexual abuse for adult lesbian women

Article Abstract:

The investigation of long-term consequences of child sexual abuse (CSA) was extended into the workplace to examine the effects on the economic welfare of lesbian women from the National Lesbian Health Care Survey. CSA survivors showed adverse health and mental health consequences, and the type of CSA experience was a significant factor predicting a woman's educational attainment and annual earnings.
