The effects of ethnicity and acculturation on early adolescent delinquency

Article Abstract:

Study on the effect of ethnicity and acculturation status on the relationship between parental monitoring, vulnerability to antisocial peer pressure and delinquency among Mexican-American and Caucasian youth revealed the presence of similar relationship between these three factors in both groups. Acculturated Mexican American youth were vulnerable to delinquency than the Caucasian and unacculturated by choice and recent immigrant groups. Recent immigrants had more parental monitoring than the acculturated Mexican Americans. Susceptibility to antisocial peer pressure mediated the relationship between parental monitoring and delinquency irrespective of the ethnicity of the adolescent.
