Cartridge pleats, also called gauging or organ pleating, controls a garment's fullness in specific areas such as the waist, shoulders, and lower sleeves. Cartridge pleats were originally developed during the Middle Ages and used widely during the Elizabethan period in gowns.

Sleeve-cap design for hard-to-ease fabrics

A solution has been discovered for the problem of hard-surfaced fabrics which readily show the marks caused by easing, pressing and manipulating during the sewing process. The key is to place a sleep-cap which was a technique used in the 1930s and 1940s.
