Several timeless, yet trendy, patterns for holiday season clothes were tested and were given high marks for comfort and fit, as well as being able to support embellishments. Among the patterns tested were Butterick 4127, and the 1932 Draped Wrap and Cape from Decades of Style 3201.

Flounces

A flounce is a sewn-on piece of fabric related to ruffle but is quite different from it. The fullness in a flounce is determined by how much longer the loose outer edge is than the sewn-on inner edge.
