Dyeing with bleach

Article Abstract:

Ordinary household bleach can be applied on dark, natural-fiber fabrics to create distinctly colored or patterned fabrics. The method is a safer and more exciting alternative to traditional dyeing. Bleach is only effective on natural fibers such as cotton, linen and rayon.

Dressmakers with a little imagine and ingenuity can transfer the textures they see in the natural world onto fabrics. Selections of the author's favorite images from a Japanese trip and some of the experimental fabrics the images inspired are included.

Fabric printing with a brayer

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning techniques of creating textile pattern design by using a brayer are discussed. Particular attention is given to types of brayers and the different types of design they can be used to produce, including texturing.
