It has become more common in Egypt for young women to choose to wear a form of Islamic dress, while older women tend to favour Western clothes. The decision to wear a veil is not determined by class or income. For some women, wearing a veil gives them a stronger sense of identity, while for others it is a form of political protest against the government. They are also aware that there are many obstacles other than the veil that are hampering their development.
