Wines released in 1996 are profiled. They are rated on a scale of one to 100, with tasting notes and prices provided. The 1995 should be as good as the great 1994 vintage. A 1994 Peter Michael Sonoma County Chardonnay Mon Plaisir at $40 is rated 94.

The 1990, 1991 and 1992 vintages are excellent, and the 1993 Chardonnays may also be very good. A 1992 Ferrari-Carano Alexander Valley Chardonnay is the editor's choice. Top wines are rated on a scale of one to 100, with tasting notes provided.
