California Syrah comes on strong: Grenache and Viognier add luster to the state's lineup of Rhone's-style wines

Article Abstract:

Syrah and Syrah-based wines from California, along with Rhone-style Grenache and Viognier wines, are seeing a great upswing in quality, but remain underappreciated and lack a wide following. Some of them include Colgin Syrah Napa Valley IX Estate 2004, Shafer Relentless Napa Valley 2003, and Cline Viognier Sonoma Coast 2005.

Bubbly for any budget

Article Abstract:

Champagnes and sparkling wines evaluated are categorized by price. Ranges are $10 and less, $20 and less, $30 and less, $40 and less, and over $40. Good wines in the $10 and under category are more difficult to find, but there are still many to be found.

Confusing price with quality

Article Abstract:

Wine prices are based on supply and demand. An expensively priced wine is not necessarily an excellent one, and buyers are paying for image, prestige, and reputation. Vintners will sometimes overprice their wines on the basis of ego.
