Classic vintage in Southern Rhone

Article Abstract:

The 1998 wines of the Rhone Valley, France, are described, with particular focus on the weather conditions and the quality of the wines. Several 1998 wines are reviewed, including Grenache and Mourvedre. The good quality of the Rhone wines and their affordable prices are emphasized.

Article Abstract:

The US practice of making oaky wines has caught on in France. This, unfortunately, is making too many wines taste the same. A wine should reflect its origins. Even a 1995 Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Montrachet recently tasted fit this dull mold.
