Consumption of packaged food and drink in EU set to rise

Article Abstract:

Consumption of traditional foodstuffs will continue to fall as more emphasis is placed on hygiene and convenience according to a new Management Report from the Financial Times. There has been a rapid rise in pre-packaged and pre-processed food because of its ease of preparation and storage. Frozen fruit and vegetables, soft drinks and savoury snacks showed the most growth between 1988 and 1993. There is expected to be a rise in consumption of carcass meats and fresh product as they are popular categories of food for tray packaging.
