A plethora of small vineyards and estates are emerging throughout California's Napa Valley, many hidden in exclusive hillside retreats. Consequently, the search for Napa's great red wine, Cabernet Sauvignon, has not only become more difficult, but more expensive, reflecting the availability and costs of premiers crus and grands crus Burgundies.

A hot year for Napa Cabernet

The California Cabernet market is ready for good business by offering good, cooler, red wines during the winter of 2005. While the tremendous wines of 2002 are entering the market, the center of business is Napa Valley, which delivers a large variety of rich, opulent young red wines at considerable prices.

PlumpJack puts new twist on Napa Valley Cabernet

Article Abstract:

Oakville's PlumpJack is experimenting with the use of screw-caps on its Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 1997, as a way of avoiding contamination of wine by tainted corks. Winemakers are divided about the appeal and efficacy of screw-caps.
