Santa Barbara, then and now

The wines produced in Santa Barbara, CA, are discussed with emphasis on older and new wine. A tasting in 2001 revealed a few good older wines, but the vintners in the area have learnt from the past and it is the newer wines which are showing promise.

A 1997 Diamond Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Gravelly Meadow merits a score of 95-100 on a scale of one to 100. Vintages from 1972 to 1997 are evaluated, and a description of a vertical tasting is recounted.
