Strom Thurmond's crusade against wine
Article Abstract:
Senator Strom Thurmond recently introduced 3 bills that have wine lovers and the wine industry worried. One bill would triple the federal excise tax on wine, another would ban labels that refer to the health benefits of moderate wine consumption, and the third would strip certain powers from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and give them to the Department of Health and Human Services. A brief history of Thurmond's life in politics and the wine industry's reaction to his recent actions is presented.
