The Okanagan Valley

Article Abstract:

The Okanagan Valley on Canada's west coast is a wine region distinguished by its unique topography and cool climate. There are 41 wineries in the area, producing a broad array of wines. Especially famous are the ice wines, which are rare dessert wines made from grapes left hanging on the vine until they freeze. In this repot, the top-scoring wine from British Columbia was Jackson-Triggs Riesling Okanagan Valley Ice Wine Proprietors' Grand Reserve 1996 ($70), scoring 91 on the 100-point scale.

Valley of the doldrums

Article Abstract:

The Loire Valley in France is a challenging area for wine-making as the weather can be rainy and humid. Three vintages in 1998, 1999 and 2000 were affected by this type of weather, but the wine-makers appear to have worked hard to secure good wine for 2000.
