UK leads European biscuit market

Article Abstract:

Per-head consumption of biscuits in the UK, at 12.67 kg in 1993, is 47% higher than the European average. The UK accounted for 26.8% of the European biscuit market in 1993, although market expansion has slowed down considerably since the late 1980s. The largest market sector is sweet biscuits, representing around 75% of all biscuit sales, with the smallest sector being savoury biscuits. Manufacturers are particularly targeting the 5-14-year-old age group, where consumption is rising most rapidly.
