Applying the states-of-change model to dietary change

Article Abstract:

Dietary interventions often fail, but more research is needed to determine if the stages-of-change model is actually a better approach. A uniform staging questionnaire is needed to determine the effectiveness of this model in changing dietary habits. The stages-of-change model has proven useful in tracking changes in smokers' habits, but dietary change is more complicated. Previous studies have been used various methodologies and applied the model differently, making it difficult to compare results and draw firm conclusions.

A dietary intervention trial for nutritional management of cardiovascular risk factors

Article Abstract:

A prepackaged diet that meets the nutritional recommendations for people with risk factors for heart disease could increase compliance rates. In a study of 560 men and women with hypertension, elevated lipid levels or non-insulin-dependent diabetes, a prepackaged diet plan or an American Heart Association Step 1 and 2 diet were both effective in lowering blood pressure, lipid levels, and weight. However, compliance was higher with the prepackaged diet.
