Gary Hirshberg runs the biggest organic yogurt company in the world that aimed at educating consumers about the value of protecting the environment and supporting family farmers among the goals of his company's mission statement. He also opened a chain of organic restaurants based in New England and came up with the concept partly in response to what he feels about the fast food's role in the nation's obesity epidemic.

The diet book, Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution, with a record sale of more than 15 million copies suggested the Atkins way of eating, which found its most explicit expression in the restaurants where chefs were too eager to impress the Atkins devotees. A debate on whether ballooning of the American obesity epidemic in the 1990s was a result of Atkins diet is presented.
