Policy: nutrition standards for treatment of pressure ulcers

Article Abstract:

The Agency for Health Care Policy and Research has created guidelines for pressure ulcer treatment, based on a review of available literature, and found a need for more research to be done on the affects of nutrition on pressure ulcers. Results indicate dietary protein is necessary in high levels for wound healing, as are vitamins A, C, and some Bs. Calory and protein amounts were recommended to prevent malnutrition, which is linked to ulcer development. The search for information resulted in only 53 citations with a correlation between nutrition and pressure ulcers.

Recommended dietary allowances: regulatory perspectives

Article Abstract:

Recommended dietary allowances (RDAs) can be considered from a regulatory perspective. RDAs can be considered an expression of nutrition policies and goals in different countries. There is disagreement about levels at which weights of children should be set, and about energy requirements and nutrient allowances and how they are derived in different countries where body types and food supplies may differ.

Recommended dietary allowances: a nutrition practitioner's perspective

Article Abstract:

Recommended dietary allowances (RDAs) are the cornerstone of education and the basis for the framework of knowledge for nutrition practitioners. They must know how RDAs are set and be aware of limitations and qualifications of regulators. Nutritionists need to help set policy for the development of RDAs.
